Mold Removal and Cleaning Services

Demolition, Treatment, and Air Scrubbing

Mold Remediation is typically conducted through a combination of HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filtering, cleaning of exposed surfaces, selective demolition of porous materials, treatment with a biocide to kill any active mold growth, and sealing the surfaces with a spray sealant. The air within the work area is filtered with the use of a HEPA-filtered air scrubber to remove residual airborne spores.

Biocides and Sealants

EMG Remediation uses various sealants and biocides to treat mold impacted surfaces. Biocides are spray applied and used to kill the existing mold growth. The sealants can be clear, for areas where overspray may be a problem, or white tinted where a brighter finish is preferred. All of the sealants include anti-microbial agents such as Microban,® which impedes mold growth for up to six months after application.

HEPA Air Scrubbing and Filtration

HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) machines circulate and remove air contaminants. These large, industrial scrubbers can be used to clear indoor air space of odors and potential indoor air quality impurities.

Drainage and Soil Re-grading

Controlling moisture in a building is the most important factor in preventing mold growth. The critical first step to controlling moisture is to eliminate the water source. Along with sound, routine building maintenance, re-grading exterior foundation drainage can eliminate even stubborn, recurring water problems.   EMG Remediation evaluates numerous factors that contribute to water infiltration including ineffective or misdirected drainage, inadequate dehumidification, undersized or clogged downspout and drains, insufficient ventilation, damaged or inappropriate flashing, and missing or decayed sealing and roofing materials.

Mold Identification, Testing, and Certified Lab Results

Not all molds or indoor air pollutants cause the same health effects. Different types are indicative of specific conditions. Therefore, identification of the mold or contaminates through air sampling, bulk material, swab, or tape lift samples can provide useful information. In some cases, analysis confirms a suspect material is not harmful and other causes of health concerns can be investigated. We only use laboratories which specialize in microbial analysis. Our testing laboratories are certified by both the AIHA and NVLAP for mold and environmental analysis.

Indoor Air Remediation and Ventilation Systems

EMG Remediation conducts a complete overview and assesses the multiple structural and building system variables that can affect indoor air quality. Then a site-specific remediation system is engineered, installed, and validated to confirm proper ventilation and air quality standards. Many variables can affect indoor air quality including poorly maintained HVAC systems, mold contamination, inadequate humidification or dehumidification, sewer system deficiencies, off-gases from in-ground contaminates, poor ventilation, ineffective or misdirected drainage, undersized or clogged downspouts and drains, damaged or inappropriate flashing, and missing or decayed sealing and roofing materials.

Mold and Indoor Air Quality Risk Assessment

With more than 25-years experience, EMG recognizes the conditions that can cause indoor air quality problem such as bacterial and microbial growth. EMG also evaluates samples and analyzes for hazardous chemicals such as volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, solvents, and particulates. Visual inspection and sampling can clarify and identify these hazards. Specifically with mold issues, health complications primarily occur from inhalation and contact with live, toxic mold spores. However, people can experience allergic reactions to any mold and even to dead mold. In susceptible people like the young, old, chronically ill, or immunocompromised, mold can trigger a severe health crisis. Both the visual inspection and laboratory analysis can help determine risks and mold remediation needs.
